Franklin youth sports just one reason home buyers flock to Franklin, MA

Flag football one of many highly successful youth sports programs in town

Franklin flag football is for children aged 6 – 15 and is now one of the largest flag football programs in the state. Participation has grown from 37 players on 4 teams back when the program got underway to today’s 470 kids competing on 36 teams.

115 coaches administer five age divisions (6 year, 7 year, 8-9 years, 10 -11 year, 12-14). The program is so large that field time is split into three shifts starting 5:30 PM, 6:45 PM and 8:15 PM, respectively).

Franklin’s flag football program has been so successful because flag football allows kids to get outside and have fun with the sport without the significant risk of injury inherent in contact football. Flag football also requires much less of a time commitment than traditional contact football youth programs. (Franklin’s flag football is played on only 2 evenings a week as opposed to contact programs’ typical 5 day a week schedules).

Residents of Franklin owe a big debt of gratitude to the Franklin Recreation Department for the wonderful job it is doing for the children of Franklin!

Parade through town

The opening day youth baseball and girls’ softball events kick off with an annual parade through the downtown area of Franklin, MA.

Kids in the Youth, Girls’ and Pee Wee Leagues all participate.  If all players make the walk, that’s nearly 2000 children in the parade!

Many parents, caregivers and siblings accompany the marchers.  Admiring onlookers line the streets.

It’s a lively, colorful and very heartwarming event involving all ages in the Franklin, MA community.

Franklin Youth Soccer Association

The Franklin Youth Soccer Association (FYSA) in Franklin, MA provides recreational soccer opportunities for children in Franklin.  The FYSA also sponsors leagues offering competitive play and travel to regional games.

The Franklin Soccer School conducts soccer training throughout the year both outdoors and in its indoor, climate-controlled facility.

Tackle youth football

The Franklin Panthers sponsor tackle youth football and youth cheer in Franklin, MA. 

Part of the American Youth Football and Cheer organization, the Franklin Panthers serve boys and girls from 2^nd grade through the 8^th grade.  The Panthers belong to the Baystate Youth Football & Cheer Conference, along with Attleboro, North Attleboro, King Philip, Foxboro, Mansfield, Easton, and Canton.

(In 2018, Franklin’s youth football severed its decades-long relationship with Pop Warner football and changed its name to the Franklin Panthers from the Franklin Chargers.)

NFL Flag football

Non-contact youth football in Franklin, Massachusetts is under the aegis of the Franklin Recreation Department as it administers the NFL Flag Football program in town.

Franklin, Massachusetts is celebrating twenty years of NFL Flag Football in 2020. The non-contact sport for kids is conducted at the  synthetic turf field at the Beaver Pond Recreation Area and other public ball fields in Franklin, MA.

Recreation Department youth basketball

The Franklin Recreation Department has been helping kids play basketball for over thirty years.  The Department’s Youth Basketball League provides instructional-level basketball to boys and girls in grades K – 8.  Here’s an example of a recent winter-season League offering:

The Department also runs intramural basketball programs for boys in grades 9-12 who are not involved in the high school basketball program.

Metro Basketball

For more advanced, serious basketball athletes in Franklin, there’s the Metro Basketball Program for grades 4 through 8.

Teams compete against teams from other area towns. Teams are open to children grades 4-8 who have a commitment to playing  serious basketball, the program features more practice time, more games and a tournament at season’s end.
