Franklin Y joins STEM movement

Franklin, MA’s Hockomock YMCA recently joined over 1,000 YMCAs nationwide in offering youth programs promoting involvement with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). As described on the national YMCA’s website, these programs seek to engage “youth in year-round STEM activities that nurture their curiosity, inspire creativity and teach them how to succeed.”

In announcing the new Technology Club & Lab on its own website, the Franklin Y stated that the goal of the program “is to teach middle school and high school students about careers in technology . . . this club introduces students to the benefits of a career in the technology field and provides a safe place to learn and prepare for a job in technology.”

Upcoming meetings of the Technology Club at the Franklin YMCA are scheduled for February 6, March 6, April 3, May 1, June 5 and July 10. If you have questions about the Franklin Y’s Technology Club or Technology Lab, please contact Kim Jennings at kjennings@hockymca.org.

Free family fun night at the Franklin YMCA

You’re invited to celebrate the advent of spring at the March Madness Family Carnival being held Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Bernon Family Branch of the Hockomock YMCA, 45 Forge Hill Road in Franklin, MA. The fun takes place from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM and it is free and open to the public – you don’t need to be a member to enjoy this event!

There will be face painting, carnival games, a bounce house and popcorn!

YMCA a great community resource

The Hockomock YMCA is a superb resource for health, recreation and child care in Franklin, MA. Programs at the Y include aquatics, gymnastics, dance, health and wellness as well as arts and enrichment. The Franklin Y offers many childcare and after school programs. The facility is spacious and modern and has an indoor track as well as both indoor and outdoor swimming pools.

Summer camp a big draw

One wonderful community service offered by the YMCA is the annual summer camp offerings for kids.

There are camps for various age groups and abilities as well as specialized camps dedicated to sports, art, acting, gymnastics, swimming and more. These offerings give kids something to do outside the home while giving parents a break during the long summer months.

Franklin, MA is very fortunate to have a thriving branch of the YMCA located in town in a modern, spacious facility.

The YMCA in Franklin, MA has pretty much what you’d want in terms of physical plant: both indoor and outdoor pools, an indoor running track, indoor basketball courts, weight training room and gym. The dressing areas are clean and nicely appointed.

The YMCA in Franklin, MA has a lots of programs for children: a respected child care program, a comprehensive summer camp, basketball classes for the kids in winter months, and also many dance classes and a robust gymnastics program. The swimming training programs for children of all ages and skill levels in the indoor pool are very popular.

For adults, the Y’s health and fitness programs afford many opportunities to get in shape and forge friendships. Classes include yoga, pilates, high- and-low-impact aerobics, kickboxing, and more!

Adirondack Club, Franklin, MA

The Adirondack Club in Franklin, MA opened in 1999, so the facilities are modern and appealing. The club boasts an 8,000 square foot workout area, eight tennis courts and two indoor pools.

The club’s child care center enables parents of young children to enjoy full use of facilities while little ones stay safe and occupied. There’s also a popular summer camp for children.

The tennis center has 8 indoor courts allow team and league play in addition to instruction and recreational tennis. There are memberships available just for tennis.

The Franklin Rod and Gun Club offers free to the public the opportunity for boating and fishing on Uncas Pond in Franklin, MA.

The Franklin Rod and Gun Club in Franklin, MA stocks the 25 acre Uncas Pond with fish and allows pond access and fishing rights to the public at no charge.
The club maintains a boat launch and dock on the pond and also has a fishing beach; these are open to use by the public.
