[post_content] => The building that houses the Franklin Public Library in Franklin, MA was built in 1904. The impressive structure was constructed and decorated in the style of a classical Greek temple with pink granite and Ionic and Doric columns.
A local wealthy family gave the funds to construct the Library building. The formal name of the library is the Ray Memorial Library.
A major renovation and expansion were completed in the 1980s.
Exterior repairs were undertaken in 2008 to prevent rainwater penetration into affected areas of the building. Improvements to landscaping and paving were also performed.

[post_content] => The interior of the Franklin Public Library in Franklin, MA is finished in marble, mahogany and bronze and sumptuously graced by murals by Tommaso Juglaris and landscapes by Henry Gallison.
The murals display motifs of Greek mythology, one series showing the “Hours of the Day”: Morning, Labor, Pleasure, Evening, and Sleep. Another is devoted to a portrayal of a Greek festival.
Some of the human figures represented in these murals supposedly were originally nude and reportedly caused local sensibilities to be offended.
The nudes allegedly were later retouched to appear at least partly clothed. Other themes of the interior decoration include “The Deserts of the World."
Scheduled 30 minute guided tours of the library are available at no charge.

[post_content] => Another great benefit offered by the Franklin Public Library in Franklin, MA is the museum pass program.
Franklin residents are allowed to borrow membership passes to a wide variety of regional museums and cultural institutions.
The passes permit steeply discounted access for groups of up to 4 persons. Advanced reservation is required and households are limited to one pass per week. Each pass can only be used one time per month.
The following organizations are just some of those included in this program: Boston Children's Museum, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Museum of Science, New England Aquarium, and the Plimoth Plantation & Mayflower II.
I've taken advantage of this program to take my family to the Providence Children's Museum, the Boston Children's Museum, and the Museum of Science in Boston. We saved a lot of money - makes sense to use this program!

[post_content] => The Friends of the Franklin Library in Franklin, MA advocate for and financially support the Franklin Public Library through book sales and annual membership dues.
The Friends donate the monies needed to run the children's summer reading program at the Library. They also cover the cost of the wonderful system of museum passes at the Library. The Friends also buy specialty books and equipment for the Library.
The Friends hold monthly meetings - all are welcome!
The book sales should not be missed!
The book sales feature a huge number of volumes and are very popular. You'll find lots of great books at bargain prices . . . and help the Franklin Public Library as well!
If you have books you want to donate, just drop them off at the library (there are bookshelves for drop-offs of book donation on the lower level near the Community Room).
