Holiday Stroll this Thursday in Franklin, MA

The annual Franklin, MA Holiday Stroll will take place this Thursday, December 1, 2011 in the Downtown area. Festivities start at 4 PM and run through 7 PM.

Tree lighting

The tree lighting will begin at 4 PM on the Dean College campus.

Refreshments and entertainment will be provided courtesy Dean College.

Meet Santa

The little ones can meet Santa from 5 PM – 7 PM at Simon’s Furniture.

Mrs. Claus too

You can visit the Franklin Historical Museum to see Mrs. Claus and . . .

Why the July 4 Celebration in Franklin, MA is something special

The annual Franklin, MA Fourth of July Celebration is much more than a one day event – it’s something really special! Because July Fourth fell on a Monday this year, the 2011 Celebration was a five day extravaganza beginning June 30 and running through July 4. Events were held on the Franklin Town Common and throughout the Franklin, Massachusetts Downtown area.

15,000 visitors enjoy the fun

Up to 15,000 were expected to be on hand at the Celebration this year. There was lots of family fun for kids and plenty to do for teens and adults too!

The second annual Franklin, MA Holiday Stroll gets underway at 4:30 PM this Thursday, December 2, 2010. Many downtown merchants are offering Holiday cheer and some exciting specials as part of this fun, festive event.

Halloween 2010 in Franklin, MA

October 28, 2010 – Franklin MA Public Library

Come enjoy a Haunted Halloween Party at the Franklin Massachusetts Public Library.

This event is for children aged 5 – 10 and will be held October 28, 2010 from 3:30 PM to 5 PM.

You are asked to register for this event at the desk in the Children’s Room or call 508-520-4940 X 2.

October 30, 2010 – Franklin MA Public Library

This Halloween celebration at the Franklin, MA Public Library is for the little ones aged 3 and up!

The Franklin, Massachusetts Public Library will host a fun-filled Halloween party and puppet show on October 30, 2010 at 1 PM.

Sparky’s Puppets will perform “A Halloween Harvest.” Just show up – no registration is required.

October 30, 2010 – Franklin Town Common

There will be a Halloween party on the Franklin, MA Town Common from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM Saturday, October 30.

Courtesy of the Franklin Dance Workshop, the festivities will be for children aged 2 to 10.

There will be games, refreshments, give-aways and a performance by Franklin Dance.

October 31, 2010 – Mitchell House, Dean College, Franklin MA

Dean College is hosting a ghoulish gathering for children aged 3 – 10 Sunday, Oct. 31 from 3 to 5 PM.

Festivities be held on the Dean campus at Mitchell House, 110 West Central Street, Franklin, MA.

There will be games, treats and crafts. The highlight will be the haunted house tour of the dormitory residence. Children are requested to wear costumes.

Halloween 2010 in Bellingham, MA

October 23, 2010 – Bellingham Town Common

The fifth annual Pumpkin Stroll in Bellingham, MA will be held at dusk on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Bellingham Town Common.

There will be candy and treats for the kids. Children are encouraged to wear costumes for the evening stroll.

Earlier in the day you can enter a pumpkin carving contest. If you want to show off your pumpkin carving skills, first get an application at the Municipal Center, 10 Mechanic St., or Brian’s Country Greenery, 121 Mechanic St. Then carve your pumpkin and bring it to the Town Common between Noon and 2 PM for judging.

Three age groups will compete for prizes. The age groups are 11 years old to 14 years old, 15 years old to 18 years old, and adults and children.
All entrants’ pumpkins will be put on display for the evening’s stroll.

Halloween 2010 in Medway, MA

October 29, 2010 – October 30, 2010 – Choate Park, Medway

There will be two events celebrating Halloween in Medway. Both will be at Choate Park off Route 109 (access parking via Cassidy Lane or Mechanic Street).

A Pumpkin Walk will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 7 PM. You can contribute your jack-o-lantern to the evening walk by dropping off your carved pumpkin creation at the tennis courts by 5:00 pm. At 7 PM, you can walk around the pond looking at all the lit pumpkins.

A Touch-A-Truck and Halloween Parade will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2010. There will be lots of cars and trucks for kids to climb on and explore starting at 10 AM. The parade starts at Noon in front of the beach.

Halloween 2010 in Norfolk, MA

October 16, 2010 – Holmes Fields, Norfolk

The tenth annual Haunted Train Ride in Norfolk, MA will be held on Saturday, October 16th, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m at Holmes Fields (off Myrtle Street).

Note that this event is currently sold out for 2010. No more tickets are available at this time.

This event is lot of fun for those lucky enough to have tickets! Kids wear costumes. Younger children are advised to come early as the ride gets scarier as it gets darker.

Halloween 2010 in Foxboro, MA

Through October 30 – Orpheum Theatre, Foxboro

There will be haunted house tours every weekend through October 30 at the Orpheum Theatre located at 1 School Street, Foxboro, MA.

There are two types of tours: scary (no one under age 10) and mild (for younger children).

Hours for the scary tours are 7 PM – 10:00 PM Fridays and Saturdays. Admission is $12.

The mild tours for the little ones are Saturdays in October 1 PM – 3 PM. Admission is $5.

Halloween 2010 in Mansfield, MA

Fridays and Saturdays for the rest of October – 401 Oakland Street, Mansfield

Take a guided tour through the forbidding “Haunted Hallows” at 401 Oakland Street, Mansfield, MA.

This is not for the squeamish or very young; an intense experience is promised!

Hours are 7 PM – 10 PM Friday, October 15 and Saturday 16; Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23; Friday, October 29 and Saturday, October 30.

Wear sturdy shoes as you will be outside walking on a dark, sometimes uneven path in a field. No children under 10 years, please. Admission is $10. Ample parking is available. This is an event sponsored by the Town of Mansfield and proceeds benefit local charities.

Halloween 2010 in Walpole, MA

October 22 & 23 and October 29 & 30 - Norfolk County Agricultural High School, Walpole

Enjoy a 35 minute Haunted Hayride on the grounds of the Norfolk County Agricultural High School located at 400 Main Street in Walpole, MA.

This event will be held October 22 & 23 and October 29 & 30 from 7 PM to 11 PM.

There will be drinks and food. $5 for children and $10 for adults.

July 4 celebration in Franklin, MA starts July 1 2010

The 2010 edition of the annual 4th of July celebration at the Town Common in Franklin, MA kicks off July 1. 5 days of fun are on the schedule. Click the link to see photos of past July 4 events at the Common.

5 day celebration

Events begin Thursday, July 1 at 6 PM at the Common.

All rides will be active then and the food booths will be serving.

There will be live music as well.

Friday fireworks

It’s another evening-only series of events the next day, Friday, July 2 at the Common.

The fireworks display will light up the sky that Friday evening at 10 PM. This event will be held at the Franklin High School on Oak Street.

Events for children and Franklin Idol Saturday

Daytime activities will get underway Saturday, July 3.

There will be a children’s parade, a series of road races and lots of children’s shows at the Common.

That evening the popular “Franklin Idol” competition will be held.

Franklin, MA Strawberry Festival 2010

Dark clouds filled the sky, but the rain held off and the eight annual Franklin, MA Strawberry Festival was a big success last week. A later starting time (4 PM) and a new outdoor location at the downtown municipal parking lot helped increase attendance over prior years.

Paired with Third Thursday

The 2010 version of the Festival coincided with the “Third Thursday” event sponsored by Franklin Downtown Partnership, so attendees could browse outdoor displays and take advantage of specials offered by many downtown businesses.

The Festival featured live music, free games and activities for the kids, and of course strawberry shortcake!

Franklin MA Farmers’ Market starts June 11, 2010

The 2010 season for the Franklin Farmers’ Market kicks off Friday, June 11, 2010 at the Town Common on Main Street in Franklin, MA. The Market will be held every Friday from June 11 through Oct 29, 2010. Hours of operation are Noon – 6PM.

Support locally produced food

The Franklin Farmer’s Market features fruits and vegetables as well as breads and food items.

There are no commercially produced food items for re-sale.

Win/Win

The Franklin Farmers’ Market is a win/win for local producers and the Town of Franklin, Massachusetts. The Market allows locally grown produce to be sold in a downtown setting. It helps local farmers and brings more people to the Downtown area of Franklin.

The Holidays got bigger and brighter this year in Franklin, MA with the addition of the Franklin Holiday Stroll, a new local Yuletide tradition. Franklin’s Holiday Stroll was inaugurated this year as a boost to the merchants in the downtown area.

The Stroll was a very successful complement to the annual Lighting of the Franklin Town Common, a cherished Holiday celebration in Franklin, Massachusetts.

Beloved gazebo on Franklin Common gets facelift

The graceful gazebo on the Franklin MA Town Common is getting some much-needed attention. An puzzling original design flaw is being corrected. The structure is getting a new broader roof, new electric lights, new railings and a general refurbishing.

Franklin treasure since 1918

The focal point of the summertime Concerts on the Franklin Common and several cherished annual holiday events including the July Fourth Celebration and the Holiday Lighting of the Common, the gazebo has suffered substantial deterioration over the years since it was built in 1918.

Poorly designed roof

Much of the damage stemmed from an inexplicably flawed roof design.

As outlined in an article the Milford Daily News originally published back in February, the circular roof of the gazebo was built with a too narrow radius. This left the brick and mortar base exposed to the elements.

Repeated cycles of freezing and thawing of winter ice and snow have eaten away at the gazebo base. Clay roof tiles have also broken, allowing the underlying wood structure to rot.

Quarter million dollar job

Cost estimates back in February for making the roof larger and doing the other improvements to the gazebo totaled approximately $250,000. The expense is well worth it as it will help assure many future generations get to enjoy this wonderful Franklin, MA landmark!

Halloween 2009 in Franklin (MA) Massachusetts

The annual Halloween Festival will be held in Franklin, Massachusetts Sunday, October 25, 2009. This fun and only mildly spooky event is great for younger kids (and parents). It’s scheduled to start at 11 AM and end at 3 PM.

The 2009 Halloween Festival will be held at the field house at the Franklin High School, which is located at 218 Oak Street, Franklin, MA 02038.

Lots of family fun
This will be the fifth time the Franklin Police department will host the family-oriented event. Here’s the Franklin Police’s posting on the event.

They have put a lot of effort and enthusiasm into past Halloween festivals, so 2009 should be something special!
