Franklin, MA middle schools are winners because middle school students in Franklin consistently perform well in the state’s MCAS exams.
But beyond the impressive MCAS rankings, Franklin, MA public middle schools can point to several other public confirmations of excellence:
1. Spotlight School Award by the New England League of Middle Schools.

The New England League of Middle Schools recently named the Remington School a “Spotlight School.” Remington is one of only 11 Massachusetts middle schools to be so honored.
The award recognizes schools perform at high rates of success in fostering learning for young adolescents and consistently achieve best practices for middle schools.
2. 2005 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year Award

MA Public School Teacher of Year
Nancy Schoen of Franklin, MA’s Remington Middle School won Massachusetts Teacher of the Year honors for 2005.
The award anually recognises the one Massachusetts teacher who in that year best personifies the highest standards of the teaching profession.
3. Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science – 2003 and 2005
Jeffrey Chaffee of Franklin MA’s Horace Middle School (2003) and June Thall of Franklin, MA’s Remington Middle School (2005) won the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). Awards are given to teachers in the US who best deserve recognition for their contributions to teaching math and science in grades K – 12.
